Good News!!!!! Suzahn has signed with Aspirion Records and the new CD "Paris Without His Kiss" will be in Stores in the US and Canada by March 16th, 2006. This CD is co-produced by 4 time Grammy, Multi Platinum and Gold Record winning Producer/Engineer Richard Adler and is now available. star blog 7.20.05 I just found out that some of my country songs were played on Desperate Housewives. Now I don't need an excuse to admit that sometimes I take a peek at the show. And the songs on Oprah are still running in over a dozen countries around the globe. God Bless re-runs! I will blog soon about my adventures in England during the Starbucks International Jazz Festival including what it was like to be in London the day they won the Olympic bid and the day after... during the Bombings on the mass transit system. peace
star blog 06.05 Spain was wonderful. Unfortunately my stay there was short but oh so sweet. I am glad that my first experience in this country was Marbella. I have always dreamed about visiting Spain. It is a beautiful place and the people are kind, laid back and visionaries of peace. And what a great reason to go, to play an International Jazz Festival. Marbella is a fairly big, small city right on the Mediterranean Sea not far from the Rock of Gibraltar. The beach has your typical Mediterranean tourist fare; condos, small shops, great Euro-style restos and lots and lots of Brits!! It is a great place for Americans to go for their first visit to this fabulous country because so many people speak English (how ever funny the accent). It is to the British what Miami Beach is to New Englanders. I played 4 shows in two days and barely got to enjoy the beautiful, 5 star Gualdpin Hotel or the beach. If you can afford to stay at the Gualdpin, I highly recommend it. It is a modern hotel with all the ammonites right on the main drag and close to everything. There are a number of very nice, reasonably priced hotels in the Old City, another must see place. There you will find tiny winding streets where you can hear the locals singing and dancing into the night. The promoter folks at Big Bear Music hooked me up with musicians for my gigs (needless to say I was very nervous). But much to my surprise I ended up with some of the top players from London. I am beginning to think Jazz is no longer just a sport only played well by the Americans. These guys were amazing. They had great attitudes and the same hankering for free food, beer and sarcastic humor as our very own Side-men do! They read my charts down cold with great feel and enthusiasm and most importantly, swung their asses off!. Then it was off to my favorite city, old friend and true love, Paris, France. I only had 2 days there, just enough to buy a cheap bottle of amazing wine, saucisson seche (dry sausage), fromage (cheeze) and fresh baguettes. I had a fantastic meeting with my new friends in Office of Commerce, Trade and Tourism in the American Embassy (courtesy of the US State Dept). They may get their way, I may just move to Paris for a little while. On my last night I "sat-in" with the most famous bass player in Paris, Jack Gregg, born and raised in Nashville, TN. He is a great player, a wonderful man and a good Old boy who is fluent in French! Go figure. He had a gig on a boat on the River Sein. Needles to say it was fabulous! I hope to have a gig there soon myself. Then , up in the air once again, to the UK (7 planes in all on this trip). It was Brighton By The Sea, my European base and home to the best damn music parties outside of Nashville (we still do 'em the best... can I get a witness...). I played a few fantastic gigs including the Unitarian Church in Ditchling, built in 1650 and a "Healthy House Concert" in a huge flat in Brighton facing the ocean. This flat was incredible. It is the most amazing triplex home I have ever seen, complete with marble indoor pool, sauna and steam room, out door garden and huge vaulted ceilings. The after party went into the wee hours with swimming, jamming and more jamming. (I opted to jam since I forgot my suit!!!) Before heading home, I had a very productive meeting with the American Embassy in London. The security took over 45 mins between walking past the barricades and 2 different screenings, a chilling reminder that we are a nation at war. I also had a variety of meetings with publishers and music industry folks and co-wrote a beautiful jazz tune with arranger/composer David Smith. None of this UK trip would have been possible if it were not for the kind, supportive and artful hospitality of Julien Ellis. I am off again to play the Starbucks Birmingham Jazz Festival in July. I will play 7 gigs in 4 days... "they like me, they really like me..." Check back soon for more blogs... Here is what the Spanish had to say about me and the CD... "Suzahn tiene un talento aventurero, fresco y atrevido, y escribe canciones que pueden llegar al carazon de los que escuchan." La Tribuna, Marbella and San Pedro, Spain "Suzahn has a bold, fresh and adventurous talent and writes songs that can touch your heart at 60 paces. " Big Bear Music peace, suzahn
